Innovative Growing Techniques
The way we grow at Plenty Plants
Our plant nursery uses specially developed media and ellepot technology to grow a variety of species for forestry and native restoration. We work with you to source suitable seed and grow plants to order for your project. Our propagation process ensures healthy and fast root development, creating uniform and lush plants with excellent crop timing.
Sustainability
We use plugs that naturally break down once planted
While we agree that planting more trees brings numerous environmental benefits, the waste generated by most stock types can be a significant drawback. By using Ellepots, we introduce zero single-use plastic to the planting site, eliminating the waste associated with single use plastic containers and bags. The paper plug, planted with the seedling, breaks down over the next few months as the plant establishes itself. This also reduces transplant shock and improves and the quality health and structure of the plant.
Efficiency
We make transport and planting quick and easy
Research by SCION and MPI indicates that with paper pot technology, a 150cc container volume is optimal for ensuring over 95% healthy survival rates in native species, outperforming traditional re-vegetation grades such as the widely used PB2. With root-plugs of a much smaller volume, our stock can be handled in trays of 32 at a time so more trees can be transported to and carried across the planting site. Therefore, we can establish stands of native bush, revegetate waterways, and beautify urban areas with efficiency similar to forestry models.
Quality Healthy Plants
We produce plants that are healthy and strong
Ellepot’s paper plug technology, combined with our specially developed growing media, produces plants with healthy root systems for optimal survival rates and growth. There is no risk of receiving a root-bound plant, as the Ellepot's exposure to air naturally prunes the roots. This process of aerial root pruning also promotes a more fibrous root structure packed with actively growing white root tips to rapidly establish in the field. With minimal transplant shock and high uniformity of these seedlings optimal results are achieved in terms of survival rates and growth.
Propagation
Our propagation process produces resilient native seedlings, individually graded and pricked-out by experts to ensure growth is optimised from day one.
Media and Growing
The combination of our proprietary media mix and Ellepot’s paper plug growing system produces vigorous growth and vibrant plants.
Root System
The results speak for themselves with our exceptional root quality, providing the optimal start for plant establishment.
Start growing your forest today
We will often have small quantities (tens of thousands) of trees available for sale during the planting season from April through to October each year. However, we primarily grow to consignment orders, so please get in touch with us now to plan your project for next season.
